Mundelein Police Department to Participate in National Night Out Event— Activities Planned for Mundelein Residents

MUNDELEIN, IL— 05/31/18—The Mundelein Police Department is proud to celebrate the 35th annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM in the Santa Maria Del Popolo parking lot (corner of Seymour and Courtland). All Mundelein residents are cordially invited to participate. This remarkable community program is designed to bring neighbors together, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and generate participation in anti-crime and drug programs. NNO sends a message to criminals that we are fighting back against crime as a community.

The event begins with tie-dye t-shirts and socks, Mundelein Fire Department engine rides, fun activities with Super Target Mundelein, and much more. Hot dogs, tacos and other snacks will be available for purchase from the Mundelein Latino Citizen Police Academy, all proceeds will go to Illinois Special Olympics. The Mundelein Police Department will also serve free popcorn and treats during the movie.

At dark, the Police Department will begin its feature presentation, showing the popular movie “Wonder” outdoors on a 45-foot screen. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and join their neighbors, family, friends, and the Mundelein Police Officers for a fun night.

Thousands of communities nationwide will participate in the “35th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.  National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Village of Mundelein, will involve people from more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.  In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate.

National Night Outbegan as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Project Coordinator, Matt Peskin said, “This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. We invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us and “give crime a going away party.”
