Mundelein Police Explorers Fare Well at State and National Competitions

In June 2016 the Mundelein Police Explorer Post 184, attended the Rockford Police Explorer Conference. During the conference, the explorers had the opportunity to compete in both team and individual competitions against 25 other explorer posts throughout Illinois. While not competing, the explorers attended law enforcement related seminars, and networked with explorers from other posts across the state.

The Mundelein Police Explorers prepared for the conference by attending weekly meetings at the police department, where they received hands-on training in all aspects of law enforcement.

The Mundelein Police Explorers competed in a physical fitness challenge and 5 team competitions.   The team won all five of the team competitions: The Explorer team of:  Dilynn Freese, Mynor Herrera, Jonathan Mendez, Barret Weadick, Benjamin Weadick, Rasec Chavez, Liam Welch, and Josh Mckay earned the following awards/recognition:

First Place:          Domestic Violence Team Competition

First Place:          Search Warrant Team Competition

First Place:          Top team Physical Fitness

Second Place:    Traffic Stop Team Competition

Fourth Place:     Crime Scene Response Team Competition

In the Individual Competitions, Explorer Benjamin Weadlick made his mark by taking home 2 first place honors, 2 second place honors, and 2 third place honors:

First Place:          Male Physical Fitness Award

First Place:          Most Sit-ups

Second Place:    Most Sit-ups

Second Place:    Mile Run

Third Place:         Mile Run

Third Place:         Most Push-ups

In July 2016 the Mundelein Police Department Explorer Post 184 competed in the U.S. National Explorer Conference in Flagstaff Arizona.  This conference consisted of 1,200 Explorers from 300 teams from all around the country.  The Mundelein Explorers team of:  Dilynn Freese, Mynor Herrera, Barret Weadick and Benjamin Weadick earned First Place Honors in Air Pistol Competition (Benjamin Weadick) and First Place Honors in Physical Fitness for males ages 14 to 17 (Benjamin Weadick).

“On behalf of the Mundelein Police Department, I congratulate our Explorer Post for representing Mundelein so well at both competitions.  The Explorers are a great group of kids who have a passion for learning about the field of law enforcement and they take their training very seriously.  I also want to acknowledge Officers Rick Witt and Tony Glogovsky for their role in mentoring the Explorers and preparing them for competition.  Both Officers do a great job ensuring that the Explorers have a meaningful experience in the program,” said Eric Guenther, Chief of Police.
