Home invasion – shots fired

Mundelein, IL—07/08/19 —On July 6, 2019 at 155PM, Mundelein Officers responded to 300 block of Oakdale for a reported man with a gun. Upon officer’s arrival, several subjects were detained and it was learned that a confrontation had ensued between 22 year old Steven Dehoyos of the 200 block of Longwood Terrace in Mundelein and a 20 year old victim. During the confrontation, Dehoyos displayed a 22 caliber handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim was able to push the gun as Dehoyos discharged the handgun. A single shot was fired which missed the victim and struck a wall. The victim and another family member who heard the commotion were able to disarm Dehoyos and pull him outside until the police arrived.  A handgun was recovered at the scene. Dehoyos was charged with attempted 1st degree murder, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm. Dehoyos will appear in bond court on July 7, 2019 at the Lake County Courthouse.
