MUNDELEIN, IL— 06/25/19 — On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, neighborhoods throughout Mundelein are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 36th Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

From 6:00 – 10:00 PM on August 6th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Mundelein and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

All Mundelein residents are cordially invited to participate. This remarkable community program is designed to bring neighbors together, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and generate participation in anti-crime and drug programs. NNO sends a message to criminals that we are fighting back against crime as a community.

This year’s event will be held at the Mundelein Park District, 1401 North Midlothian Road, Mundelein.  The event begins with National Night Out activities, including tie-dye t-shirts, a bounce house and slide, DJ music and games, photo booth, Mundelein Fire, Police and Public Works Departments will have a touch-a-truck station, fun activities with Super Target Mundelein, and much more. Food will be available for purchase from Mario’s cart food truck.

This year we are partnering with the Mundelein Park District and will have free swim at Barefoot Bay from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.

At dark, the Police Department will begin its feature presentation, showing the popular movie “Spider-Man:  Into the Spider-Verse” outdoors on a 45-foot screen. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and join their neighbors, family, friends, and the Mundelein Police Officers for a fun night.  The Mundelein Police Department will also serve free popcorn and treats during the movie.

Thousands of communities nationwide will participate in the “36th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.  National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Village of Mundelein, will involve people from more than 16,790 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.  In all, over 38.6 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime.’

National Night Out began as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Project Coordinator, Matt Peskin said, “This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. We invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us and “give crime a going away party.”
